Schiller (vid 1) - Weltreise

Schiller's second album is also the first to get a video release in the form of a DVD, released the same year as the regular and limited edition CD. But, why would anyone buy this since that CD is made in dolby surround? I'll tell you why : because it offers more than the album itself.

Before you read this, let me point you to the previous entry about the album and its 18 tracks. They are all here - except the Chill Out from limited edition's CD2.

So, what's on this dvd ?

  • First, the album, which is again offered in dolby surround 2.0 that renders rather well on multi channel Hifi systems (especially those capable of expanding the sound from a stereo source to 5 or more channels, like mine does) - the menu gives you direct access to any given track from this album, presented also with images from around the world - which is the main spirit of this album.

  • Second, Die videos are the 6 clips for Das Glockenspiel, Liebeschmertz, Ruhe - from the first album Zeitgeist - as well as Ein Schöner Tag, Dream of you, Dancing with loneliness - from this current one. They are all in 2.0 dolby digital as well.

  • Third, a 50 minutes, 9 track live concert recorded in Hamburg on 19/09/2001, with the following tracks:
1.     Der anfang
2.     Ein Schöner Tag
3.     Strandmusik
4.     Distance
5.     Dancing with loneliness
6.     Schiller
7.     Dream of you
8.     Ruhe
9.     Das Glockenspield

The dvd also offers small biographies, weblinks and photos (in section Das leben), discography, more photos, and Schiller's audio commentary in German on the album (in section Die musik)

Evidently, the concert feels like it could get better by today's standards, but rest assured, there will be improvements in sound on subsequent video releases - all the way to bluray editions that I'll discuss in due time.

Again, I enjoy this a lot - why not pop this dvd and use the imagery as a meditation ? (I did a bit, but not the entire album as of yet) ; or, the concert, or if you understand German, listen to the audio commentary - I wish I could!
